As you know, our Polar Peace March in January was a huge success. We raised awareness and financial support for UCAN and made a powerful statement in our community. At the Polar Peace March one of the youth from UCAN said "I wish you would come to our community." We have a chance to grant his wish, not with a march through Lawndale but by but by grabbing a paintbrush, hammer or shovel and getting to work on April 29th a National Day of Rebuilding Together. To learn more please read the note below form church member and Rebuilding Together project leader Gerald Wilk.
Last summer our high school mission trip went to Homestead, FL, where we connected with Rebuilding Together, a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to help rehabilitate homes for those who cannot afford it. We learned that Rebuilding Together has a strong presence in Chicago, giving us an opportunity to help people here at home. Every year on the last Saturday of April Rebuilding Together holds its National Day of Rebuilding, where thousands of volunteers across the country take on hundreds of houses, making them safe, warm and dry in one day of work. In Chicago along, 30+ houses are on the schedule for April 29.
St. Pauls has volunteered to do two of those houses, and whether or not you have experience remodeling a house, painting a room or picking up trash in a yard, we would love your help on April 29 from 8 am till 5 pm. The minimum age for volunteers is 12. We are requesting a donation of $30 per volunteer to cover the project costs, but if you cannot afford this please still sign up. Let's work together to make a difference in our city!
