The congregation calls Frederick Trost as Senior Pastor.

St. Pauls gives refuge to young people protesting in Lincoln Park during the Democratic National Convention.

The church school begins using United Church of Christ curriculum; many church school teachers resign in protest.

With a Project Head Start program and the Lincoln Park Cooperative Nursery School already on the church site, St. Pauls School for the Retarded is founded to provide a nursery school experience for special needs children; the school becomes Park West Cooperative Nursery School in 1971.

Throughout the 70's St. Pauls experiences decreased attendance and increased financial deficits, but it does not make reductions in worship, education, benevolences, or other programs and even expands some programs.

The congregation calls Thomas Henry as Associate Pastor.

Virginia Traut becomes the first woman president of the congregation.

Colleen Henry, wife of Associate Pastor Henry, works with others to develop gender neutral prayers, responses, and lyrics to hymns.

A new church newsletter is introduced called "Now You Know."

Gordon Smith joins Tom Henry as Associate Pastor.

St. Pauls holds its first Oktoberfest celebration; by vote of the congregation, Council is overruled and beer is served in the church building for the first time.

James Gorman replaces Associate Pastor Smith.

Bible Story Theatre begins in cooperation with the Body Politic Theatre.
Church School hour is moved from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.; "Ten O'clock Celebrations" are held monthly at first, then quarterly, in the Social Hall.
St. Pauls Folk Group begins and the St. Pauls Intergenerational Orchestra is revived.

Gospel Music Program is held to raise funds to repair the stained glass windows in the sanctuary.

Bible Story Theatre moves to St. Pauls and becomes annual church production, led by Sharon Phillips.
