Confirmation

7th & 8th Grades

Confirmation Program Overview

St. Pauls UCC offers a two-year Confirmation Program. In the past it was offered during 8th and 9th grade. We are making a transition to have Confirmation offered during 7th and 8th grade. This year, 7th and 8th graders will be in Confirmation 1 class together and 9th graders will be in Confirmation 2. After we make this change, Confirmation 1 will be for 7th graders and Confirmation 2 will be for 8th graders and students will be confirmed at the end of 8th grade.

A student entering this program is not signing on to be confirmed, but rather is entering a process to help her or him decide if they would like to be confirmed. The decision of whether to join the church through the Rite of Confirmation is made at the end of the process. It is the goal of this program to connect students to the church and church community. Students are expected to complete the following requirements in order to be confirmed as a member of St. Pauls UCC.

Fill Out Online Forms:

Experiences Worksheet              Worship Notes Version

In Confirmation I students will be expected to:

  1. Attend at least 8 out of 12 confirmation classes during the school year.
  2. Choose at least 3 experiences from the list below and fill out worksheets after completing the experiences.
  3. Attend 3 worship services at St. Pauls each year (and fill out worksheets)

In Confirmation II, students will be expected to complete the above, as well as:

  1. Attend at least 6 out of 11 confirmation classes during the school year.
  2. Choose at least 4 experiences from the list below and fill out worksheets after completing the experiences.  Do one of the experiences with your mentor and fill out the worksheet together.
  3. Attend 3 worship services at St. Pauls each year (and fill out worksheets)
  4. Meet with mentor 3 times per year and connect with mentor 1 time per month

Church Experiences

As part of the Confirmation process, students are asked to take part in various experiences at St. Pauls, as well as, independently. At the completion of each experience, students need to fill out a worksheet to show that they engaged in the experience. Additional experiences may be offered throughout the year as opportunities arise. If a student loves an experience, they are welcome and encouraged to repeat it.

During Confirmation II, each student will be asked to pick a talent project where each confirmand is given $20 to use to support a charity, and ask them to see how far they can stretch it. We are hoping that each confirmand will work with their mentor and possibly with other confirmands to find a cause they believe in and then use their money to further that cause. Talent Project

After the service project has been completed, the confirmand and their mentor will need to prepare a short (5 minute) presentation to be given at the Confirmation brunch in May. We expect to hear about what was done but hope to also hear about how the project affected the confirmands and what they will take away from it. Pictures or other visual aids might be fun. We encourage you to be creative and dazzle us!
